The Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, has commended the government for implementing the Single Spine Salary Structure. About 23,000 personnel of the Ghana Police Service reportedly witnessed substantial increases in their July pay following the implementation of the SSSS. Public Affairs Director of the Police Service Kwesi Ofori told Joy Business the increase would boost the morale of personnel of the service. Though the Police Service has started enjoying SSSS, other civil servants are yet to benefit. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Programme Tuesday, Gabby Otchere Darko said he hoped the SSSS implementation would soon be widened to cover all civil servants, applauding the Ministry of Finance for spearheading the implementation. He emphasized there is the need to ensure some level of standardization and a competitive urge in the civil service. In agreement with Gabby’s submissions, Presidential Aide Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, a co-panelist on the programme, said civil servants should be promoted based on their performance and quality of work. He urged the workers to bear in mind that experiencing increases in their salaries means enormous strain on the government’s budget, stressing the need for increased productivity to improve government’s revenue generation. Lantey Vanderpuije pleaded with others in the civil service who are not yet benefiting from the scheme to exercise patience and continue engaging the Fair Wages & Salaries Commission in dialogue for an amicable conclusion on what is due them and desist from taking to the street to demonstrate against the government. He commended the erstwhile Kufuor administration for initiating the scheme and the Mills government for ensuring that the SSSS came to fruition. By: Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
