The 2016 edition of Nhyira FM Community Soccer Gala ended successfully at the Asem Cluster of Schools Park, with a combined team of Asem-Fante New Town emerging winners.
They beat Bantama 3-2 on penalties after the two sides had settled for a nerve-wracking goalless draw in regulation time of the finals.
Sixteen communities in Kumasi took part in the one-week tournament organized annually by Kumasi’s most popular radio station, Nhyira 104.5 FM, spearheaded by the crack Power Sports team.
For their prize, Asem-Fante New Town received a giant trophy, Gh¢2,000.000 cash and medals for all players. The presentation was done by the General Manager of The Multimedia Group, Kumasi, Jim Aglah.
Attendance was massive for the duration of the competition, as large the crowds besieged the venue each day to enjoy soccer artistry from participating teams.
Dignitaries who graced the event included Asemhene, Nana Ampofo Kyei Baffour performed the symbolic kick-off on the opening day.
Brukutu Barima Nsuo Ginger Gin, Otuasekan Rural Bank, P.K. Boateng Agro Chemical Supply, Inspired Pictures and Annin Black Shoes also supported the competition.
