National Ranking Tour has a new champion, the long awaited power shift, Daniel Anum Quartey beat Benjamin Palm in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in 1hour -54 minutes to win the 2016 National ranking Tour 3 on Saturday afternoon at Accra Sports Stadium.
Both Daniel Quartey and Benjamin Palm made history playing their first finals and also belong to Accra Lawn Tennis Club.Quartey is the first player from Accra Lawn Tennis Club to win the title and he did with how the big man went splendid backhand winner that leftPalm rooted to the baseline while he went berserk in the stands jubilation with his fans.
Quartey had the bigger weapons, held his nerve better on the big points and fully deserved the victory. He sealed it with one of the best serves in the game, a punishing two-fisted backhand that steadily dismantled Palm defensive game, as well as a delightful array of forehand winners.
After the win, DanielQuartey said “I am truly happy with this achievement, theother players played their best, Palm in particular,Afterbeating Emmanuel Plange(a former champion) at the quartersit occurred to me, I had to win this tournament.”

Some fans were hopeful Benjamin Palm could land his first title after causing the tournament’s biggest upset, beating Ghana’s4thranked player, Benjamin Fumi 6-3-3-6, 6-1 at the semis. Quartey however adopted a very aggressive strategyin the finals to came on top.
In an interview with Palmafter the match, he told tennisgh.com that he was very happy to have played in his first final especially when no one had tipped him at the start of the tournament. He added that “I believe my constant training brought me this far and I will continue to train very harder”.
The current National Ranking Tour since its start in 2014, has had seven (7) different players three (3) of them at the time of winning were outside 5 top ranked players.Emmanuel Plange in 2015National ranking Tour 5and KabenaOfosuBamfo in 2016National ranking Tour 1 and the new champion. Contenders for the title in July will be many as likes Ashitey Armah and Marcel Agbegne present threat to the champions.
