Emmanuel Agyemang Badu says Ghana must use the pain of previous tournament disappointments to drive them on at AFCON 2017.
The Black Stars have not won the Africa Nations Cup since 1982 and have reached three finals within the last 24 years losing all three.
Badu remembers Ghana’s disappointment at the 2010 and 2015 AFCON, and insists that he and his team-mates must put up a strong showing in Gabon to erase the torment of repeatedly falling short.
“I remember that well,” he told the Asempa Sports when asked about the defeat to Ivory Coast a year ago.
“We had a great team back then too. But we lost on penalties. It was devastating.”
“For me it’s motivation to go on and do great things. We all know how much it would mean to the country to go all the way in this competition and win it.”
“So, it is all about using those kind of memories, and that heartache, to play in a positive manner.
“We’ve put that behind us and we’ve got a different strategy next year’s tournament in Gabon.
“It’s all about going out to Gabon to express ourselves and put in a good performance.”
The Cup of Nations is scheduled for January 2017.
