The ruling National Democratic Congress is asking media managers to stop granting audience to any group or persons purporting to speak for, and represent, the interests of the party.
It said the formation of such groupings within the party was banned in 2002.
It is also warning the groups to desist from speaking on behalf of the party.
The decision was taken after a marathon meeting by all regional chairmen yesterday. It was prompted by the media crossfire by divergent groups following the emergence of posters campaigning for the party’s flagbearership for former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
The spokesperson for the NDC Regional Chairmen, Ade Coker, told Joy News after the meeting that the regional chairmen also resolved that all other groups apart from the Women and Youth groups have been disbanded.
Anyone who holds himself out as a member of any illegal group faces sanctions, he said.
Mr. Coker said the decision was not aimed at stifling free expression within the party.
The regional chairmen also passed a vote of confidence in the Mills-led administration entreating all party members to rally behind the president to deliver on his better Ghana agenda.
