The leadership of junior nurses and midwives at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are accusing authorities of what it describes as a ‘calculated attempt’ to break their front in their fight for unpaid salary arrears.
Members have alleged that some executives are being threatened by unknown persons to abandon their agitation over the matter.
This follows threats by the health workers to embark on strike to press home their demands after several petitions to the Health Ministry have yielded unsatisfactory results.
Some members who spoke to Nhyira News say the ministry has paid only seven out of 22 months’ arrears in defiance of government directives to back-date payment to cover their internship period.
Meanwhile, hospital officials have dismissed the claims by the health workers, describing them as mischievous.
Public Relation Officer, Kwame Frimpong, says most of the nurses have been paid; leaving only midwives, a situation he attributes to document disparities.
He says officials will in due course explain the issues to the public.
