He appealed to the people to rekindle the communal spirit, which he noted had died down in recent times, to complement government efforts at developing the country.
Mr Nyamekye Marfo was addressing the people at the Sunyani main lorry park after visiting the various areas where clean-up exercises were conducted in the municipality to herald the 54th Independence Anniversary Celebration.
The regional minister appealed to the Municipal and District Assemblies to ensure that clean up exercises were held on monthly basis in order to make the task of ridding the community of filth less difficult and burdensome.
Some of the groups and organisations that took part in the hour-long exercise included the personnel of the police service, garages association and some community members.
The rest were churches, boys scout, third infantry battalion, PROTOA, metro mass transport, prisons service, Moslem youth movement, Gonja youth association, immigration service, Ghana National Fire Service, market women, GPRTU taxi branch, Customs Exercise and Preventive Service and some staff of the Brong - Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council.
They desilted drains along main roads, cleared weeds and picked polythene materials and swept the streets along certain areas including Cocoa House, Post Office, Rex through Old GNTC to Joe Bennett Pharmacy.
Other areas were the town centre traffic lights to hospital traffic lights, SSNIT House through Municipal Hospital to Goil Filling Station, Atronie station, Penkwase traffic light through regional hospital to medical village junction.
Some personnel of Zoomlion were also on hand to fumigate gutters and drains along streets.
The Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, thanked the participants for taking part in the exercise and appealed to them to keep up the spirit to maintain the good reputation of the municipality.
The MCE also called for good environmental management of the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani.
Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, Chief of Sunyani, noted that there was the need to keep proper management of the environment to check the high incidence and outbreak of diseases in the system and do away with unhygienic behaviours.
