Hundreds of West African nationals, including Ghanaians, are crossing into the country at the Elubo border.Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Joy FM’s Western Regional Correspondent, Kweku Owusu Peprah, said about 300 people entered the country through the Elubo border Wednesday but majority of them chose not to register as refugees.They are believed to be fleeing the Ivorian crisis which has degenerated into gun battles between forces loyal to incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo and the man widely perceived as winner of November’s presidential poll, Alassane Ouattara.He said many of them, believed to be Ivorians, Liberians, Burkinabes as well as Ghanaians are renting rooms in residential homes and hotels in Takoradi and Accra, with some choosing to remain at the border.He said so far, two families had confirmed their willingness to be refugees in the country, adding that they had tended their details to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for processing.The UNHCR says they have been given a 25-acre land at a site in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region to serve as a refugee camp for those fleeing the violence in that country.Five acres of the land, according to the UNHCR has been cleared and they are preparing to mount tents and latrines in readiness for the escapees.Myjoyonline will keep you posted on further developments.Story by Fidel Amoah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
