A principal of the Jackson Educational Complex has commended the First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo for her commitment to ensuring better health care delivery for women.
According to Theodosia Jackson, the First Lady has distinguished herself as a mother of the nation and an advocate for women empowerment.
Her commendation follows Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s collaboration with The Multimedia Group to build a maternity ward to ease the plight of mothers who give birth at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
This was after Joy News aired its first Special Assignment documentary 'Next To Die' which highlighted the awful conditions at KATH.
A copy of which was handed to her and the Second Lady Samira Bawumia by the maker, Joy News' Seth Kwame Boateng, few weeks after it aired on the MultiTV channel, JOYNEWS.
Seth Kwame Boateng's documentary highlighted maternal and child deaths as a result of lack of space and logistics at the hospital.
Doctors and other stakeholders have called for the speedy completion of an abandoned 1000-bed capacity maternal block for the hospital.
The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, backed by The Multimedia Group Thursday led an army of philanthropists and corporate institutions to drive the campaign to end the many avoidable deaths.
The event which is targeted at raising an initial GHS10 million to put up a new Mother and Baby Unit for the largest hospital in the Ashanti Region, as well as other referral hospitals, saw companies such as GHACEM, producers of cement, and Promasidor manufacturers of cowbell donating money and other items.
On the backdrop of this, Mrs. Jackson expressed her admiration for the work the First Lady to doing which she says h brought out her “inner beauty and leadership qualities”.
She hoped such initiative by the Mrs. Akufo-Addo and the Multimedia Group would be extended to other parts of the country to improve health care.
