At least 50 people including personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service are receiving medical attention in the Western Regional town of Sekondi after a gas explosion Tuesday morning.
Some residents as well as fire personnel who were at the scene to douse the inferno sustained varying degrees of injuries following the multiple explosion.
The injured were rushed to the Effiankwanta Hospital in Sekondi for treatment.

PRO of Western Regional Fire Service, Emmanuel Bonney said fire personnel arrived at the explosion scene at 7:32 a.m. following a distressed call.

He said while the fire personnel attempted to extinguish the fire, there was a second explosion near them.

“So it burnt all the crew fighting the fire and those on the streets.”

Mr Bonney said fire personnel have been able to control the fire.

The cause of the explosion at the premises of the Ghonco Chinese Company located on the Sekondi-Takoradi road has not been established.

Mr Bonney said investigations would be open into the matter to find out what led to the fire.
