Police in the Central Region have arrested a 39-year-old man for defiling his own daughter.
Timothy Korankye is alleged to have had sex with his daughter, 16, while she was sleeping.
His wife, Maame Esi, is said to have reported her husband to the Police after he failed to provide money for the termination of a five-month-old pregnancy resulting from the defilement.
Joy News’ Richard Kojo Nyarko reported that the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DVVSU) are preparing to charge the suspect with incest and defilement.
He said the young girl who has dropped out of school because of her present state, revealed that her father threatened her with death if she ever told anybody about her ordeal.
She said her father forcibly slept with her once, but because of the threats, she was forced to go to her mother’s friend for help.
Police in the region say, Korankye admitted committing the offence in his caution statement with the explanation that his wife of six years had starved him of sex for some time now, and that he slept with his daughter out of desperation.
The suspect has been remanded in prison custody.
