Kumasi suburb of Old Tafo won the first Charger Community Soccer Gala played over the weekend in the Ashanti regional capital.
They beat Suame by a lone goal in the final match at the traditional Asem Park.
The month-long competition, involving 18 communities in and around Kumasi also saw on display an array of Ghana Premier Division players.
Led by West Africa Football Academy defender, Caleb Amankwah Old Tafo exhibited a lot of cohesion and solidarity against Suame which looked out of sorts for the greater part of the game.
It came as no surprise when the team guided by former Asante Kotoko and Ghana defender, Dogo Moro emerged winners.
Dignitaries who watched the game included former Asante Kotoko strikers, Prince Polley and Samuel Opoku Nti.
Also in attendance was Ashanti Regional Football Association Chairman, Osei Tutu Agyemang, Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, and Chief Executive of Charger Limited, sponsors of the gala Bortey Borketey.
Kwasi Appiah presented the trophy and cash prize of Gh¢5,000.00 to the Old Tafo team with the runners-up, Suame taking home a trophy and a cheque for Gh¢ 2,500.00 with Adum receiving Gh¢1,000 for placing third.
Coach Kwasi Appiah was very impressed by the talents on display, saying community football should, once again, be embraced and encouraged.
On his part, the CEO of Charger Limited Bortey Borketey assured the public of his company’s continued support in unearthing football talents through the organization of such competitions.
