The Ashanti Regional Minister has called on the chiefs and people of Agogo to be patient as the Regional Security Council formulates a roadmap to evict Fulani herdsmen from the area.
Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Mensah says the REGSEC needs some time and the cooperation of the parties to carry through a court order to remove all Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from Agogo lands.
He was speaking at the inauguration of an eleven-member committee to oversee the evacuation of the nomads.
The proposed committee has been tasked to work out an evacuation plan for the flushing out of Fulani herdsmen from Agogo.
This follows a Kumasi High Court’s mandatory injunction to the Regional Coordinating Council to take immediate and efficient action to remove all cattle from six villages in the Agogo traditional area.
The committee is headed by the Ashanti Regional Security Liaison, Mr. Bempong Marfo.
Other members include the head of the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces Brig. Gen R. K. Opoku Adusei, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Patrick Timbilla, Regional BNI Commander CSO Alex Daary as well as representatives of the Agogomanmakuo, Agogo Youth Association and the Concerned Youth of Agogo.
Dr. Agyeman Mensah acknowledged the hardships residents of Agogo have had to face in the hands of Fulani herdsmen over the years but called for cooperation for the committee to carry out its work.
Committee Chairman, Bempong Marfo is hopeful the committee will come out with an amicable and lasting solution to the Fulani impasse.
