Koku Anyidoho virtually issued an edict Friday to persons connected to the MV Benjamin cocaine case not to make any attempt to exit the country because they will be busted.
The warning follows the arrest last week of Sheriff Asem Dake, otherwise known as the “Limping Man” who is touted as key suspect in the famous yet mysterious disappearance of what was acknowledged as 77 parcels of cocaine aboard the vessel MV Benjamin in 2006.
According to the Communications Director at the Presidency, Asem Dake who is in police custody is ‘singing like a canary’ and by the time the matter is dealt with thoroughly, no one in the loop of the historic drug case will be spared, be they ex- or sitting presidents.
“Today Asem Dake is in custody and ...I can promise you, President Mills is going to go to the bottom of this matter. Nobody, be it a former president, be it a sitting president, be it an erstwhile president, anybody who is involved in this cocaine matter..., you can be sure that President Mills will let the people of Ghana stand and point fingers at those who were involved in this dastardly trade.”
Koku Anyidoho who was speaking on Radio Gold to underscore President Mills’ commitment to fighting the drug war and making Ghana an “unattractive destination” for the drug trade, explained that many who do not know the President closely enough take him for granted, warning that they do so at their own risk.
He said the President is very deep in thought, calculated and meticulous in his actions and for those who are on the outside and can afford to laugh at him because they do not know him, the time comes soon when they will be exposed.
“... We will get to the bottom of this cocaine matter, 77 parcels of cocaine? When INTERPOL alerted us? We moved our vessels from the sea, brought them to the base claiming that they had run out of food rations. Our ‘hellis’ (helicopters) were not allowed to use our airspace? All kinds of incredulous things happen in this nation. You had a president and his defence minister-brother and nothing could be done and these people are the ones who want to be pointing fingers at President Mills? ...They will be exposed one-by-one-by-one and nobody will be allowed to run out of this country.
“As I speak to you now, I know, anybody who attempts to leave the shores of this country will be busted and it is a message we are sending out to them. They shouldn’t attempt, we will all stay in the four corners of this country called Ghana and by the time we finish with this matter, we shall see those who love this nation and mean well for this nation."
