Prime Minister of Britain, Mr. David Cameron, has promised to cooperate with Nigeria in whichever way to tackle global threat of terrorism. He also commended the Federal Government for its efforts in checking terrorism in the country. Speaking when he held a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, who is in London for the Conference on Somalia, Cameron said he was happy with the role Nigeria was playing in the international arena where they have common interest. Cameron therefore charged Jonathan to be steadfast in their “shared agenda of vigorously tackling terrorism and international security issues”, which was a move in the right direction. According to him, there were great potentials in Nigeria which was playing leadership role economically and otherwise, and pledged continued bilateral cooperation on African and global issues given the nation’s important position in the comity of nations. Also, Jonathan, who spoke after his meeting with Cameron in the conference, said Nigeria would continue to collaborate with Britain and other friendly nations in the prosecution of the war against terrorism. He maintained that Nigeria was doing everything possible to secure the release of the European nationals who were recently kidnapped near the Nigeria/Niger border. The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering and expanding trade and economic relations with Britain. He thanked Cameron for inviting Nigeria to the London Summit on Somalia, adding that he looked forward to a continuous and mutually-beneficial cooperation between Nigeria and Britain on issues of interest to both nations and the international community. Jonathan pledged his administration’s commitment to fostering and expanding trade and economic cooperation with Britain, and called for protection of mutual interests.
