Doctors say many don't take the medical recommendation to undergo annual thorough screenings.
Taking the hint, the Multimedia Group Limited decided to "force the issue" by organising a pretty exhaustive check-up for close to 600 staff in Accra alone.
A New Year, a new bill of health was the agenda for management and so it turned out as staff spent Saturday going through a labyrinth of tables where different tests and checks were conducted.
Enthusiastic members of Islamic Medical Association of Ghana (IMAGH), a non-governmental, non-profit organisation were pretty happy to help the staff check their height, weight, blood pressure and figure out one's metabolic age.
It turned out some editors and technicians are teenagers as far as their metabolic age is concerned.
Hundreds of staff of Joy FM, Adom FM, Hitz FM, Multi TV, Myjoyonline.com and Adomonline.com went through screening for cardiovascular diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and Hypercholesterinemia.
So the Kokomemle headquarters of the MGL turned into a screening center for employees in the media profession arguably one of the high-pressure cooker jobs in Ghana.
Next phase? The exercise goes to Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital where Luv FM and Nhyira FM complete the list of media outlets under Ghana's most influential medial organisations.
Dr. Samed Tanko, led the IMAGH team which included a Consultant Cardiologist at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Biomedical scientists, Dieticians and clinical psychologists from major hospitals in Ghana to supervise the screening.
The IMAGH team also provided consultation and counselling to every staff based on their screening report.
Participants had the opportunity of having their cardiovascular risks calculated and their metabolic age assessed and compared to your real age.
