The Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe in the Volta Region, Andrews Teddy Ofori, has expressed concern about the development of illegal structures in parts of the municipality.
In an interview with Joy News, Mr Ofori warned that the Assembly would soon act to deal with the problem.
“The assembly will very soon take legal action against these people to serve as a lesson to others,” he warned.
The Hohoe municipality is one of the busiest communities in the region because of its strategic location along the eastern corridor road.
It is also the destination for a lot of tourist attractions, with thousands of tourists visiting the municipality regularly.
In recent times, however, squatters are setting up illegal structures without recourse to the Assembly’s rules and regulations.
What is worrying is that some of these buildings are being put up on farmlands and waterways, a situation which could pose serious problems in the future.
Andrews Teddy Ofori has advised residents to secure building permits before embarking on their projects.
