The Presidency has revealed the Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been flown to the UK for further medical treatment after he was reported unwell last Friday.
The statement signed by the Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare said the Vice-President is on medical leave as advised by his doctors.
She said the Vice-President was joined by his wife for the UK trip.
Samira Bawumia was absent from the commissioning of a maternity block last Friday. It was a project which together with the First Lady she helped to raise funding for its construction.
Her expected presence but surprising absence has been linked to her husband's medical condition.
The Presidency had promised to be forthcoming with medical information after it broke the news about Bawumia's medical status.
An earlier statement on social media pointing to the UK trip was described as fake.
The Communications Director Eugene Arhin said an authentic statement would soon be released signed by Frema Osei-Opare.
The Chief of Staff statement released Saturday morning was signed Friday 19th January 2018. It raises issues about whether the Vice-President left last Friday or whether the date is an error.
