Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has paid a glowing tribute to the departed statesman and diplomat, K. B.  Asante, whose death was confirmed by his relatives Monday morning.

The family has promised to issue an official statement on the sad episode.

Paying his tribute to the state veteran, Former President Mahama wrote on his Facebook wall describing him as “a fountain of wisdom”

Mr. Mahama also extended his condolences to the family of K. B. Asante.

“Received the sad news of the passing of 'uncle' K.B. Asante. Statesman, Diplomat and Civil Servant extraordinaire. His experience straddled our early pre and post-independence era. A fountain of wisdom from which we all drunk freely is shut.

 

Condolences to his family, the Nkrumahist group, and indeed all Ghanaians”, Mr. Mahama posted.

Kwaku Baprui Asante was secretary to Ghana's first President Kwame Nkrumah and served in the civil service for more than 20 years.

He entered politics after quitting the civil service in 1978. The statesman kept a column Voice From Afar published in the Daily Graphic for many decades.

The late K.B. Asante also served as the Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Economic Community from 1976-1978.

First President of the fourth republic, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has also said some fine words for the departed diplomat saying that he was a “gentleman, historian, public-spirited person, a patriot and a genuine Nkrumaist”.
