The Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at the Presidency, Dr. Tony Aidoo has described Kennedy Agyapong as someone who has terrorized Ghanaians since he entered politics and a threat to both Ghanaians and the state.And he finds executives of the New Patriotic Party reprehensible for going round pleading clemency for Ken Agyapong instead of advising him against his terrorist’s comments and activities.Dr. Aidoo was speaking on Deamehunu, an Adom FM programme hosted by Afia Pokua, insisting that Mr. Agyapong’s comments have all the ingredients of treason and genocide and was confident that the charges would be proven in court.He disagreed with the arguments of some NPP lawyers that the NPP MP does not have the capacity to wage war on the nation; that mere words do not mean anything unless an action or a series of activities have been executed to that effect.Dr. Tony Aidoo also dismissed comments by the NPP that the president is not in charge, acknowledging that President John Mills is aware of all the political issues in the nation and continuous to be committed to the rule of law and ensure that there is absolute peace in the nation.He said if Mr. Agyapong had not been detained other people would have acted upon his call especially when, according to him, he charged the people to ‘kill’ and had early on in the week visited Odododiodoo constituency to make similar serious comments.Dr. Aidoo insisted Kennedy Agyapong’s comments cannot be dismissed as mere words and using Rwanda as an example, Dr. Aidoo said the conflict was started by words not just action, dismissing the arguments that Mr. Agyapong did not mean his words.He said the government has neither any intention nor plan to frustrate the NPP with the arrest of the NPP MP.He denied claims that Mr. Agyapong’s arrest was part of a grand design to frustrate the NPP and its campaign to capture political power so the NDC government could manipulate the election result.Said Dr. Aidoo; “You see my dear lady, Kennedy Agyapong has been given a long rope and he has hanged himself. Was he under duress when he spoke?”Asked if Mr. Agyapong’s frustrations at the ongoing biometric registration process had any merit, the National Democratic Congress stalwart said he had not heard of the complaints by the NPP; however, he said, strangers cannot be allowed to register in areas where they will be unable to exercise informed choice relative to the local community.Dr. Aidoo suggested that the issue of who qualifies as a resident of a locality to register and vote should be tested at the Supreme Court in the future.Asked if the manner in which Mr. Agyapong has been arrested and handled has created more political tension in the nation, Dr. Aidoo was positive that the Police Service and the judiciary have acted within the limits of the law and that he has no qualms about it.
