Despite concerns raised over violence in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise, a senior member for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosah is optimistic the 2012 general elections will begin and end peacefully.Supporters of ruling National Democratic Congress and their main rivals, the New Patriotic Party have accused each other of allegedly plotting to rig the elections by sponsoring unqualified persons to register to vote on December 7.Clashes in Ashanti and Greater Accra regions have prompted some peace-loving persons to caution politicians and their followers against disturbing the peace that the nation currently enjoys.But the former flagbearer-aspirant of the CPP in the 2008 elections strongly believes the elections will not lead the nation into any chaotic situation.He told Adom News the two leading political parties should allow officials of the Electoral Commission to do their constitutionally mandated work by successfully compiling the voters register.Prof. Akosah said agents of the parties at the registration centres should follow the agreed protocol if they suspect any foul-play in the exercise and desist from creating tension.He was however confident that in spite of the tension and the pockets of violence reported at some centres, the campaigns will go on smoothly, while voting and counting will be peaceful and a winner declared.
