The Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA), is set to wrap up the final round of matches and coronation of Champions in two Beach Soccer leagues at the weekend.
The first of its kind in West Africa, the leagues will see out the final round of matches when Sunset Sports from the coastal area of Keta stand on the verge of making history as the winners of the maiden beach soccer league.
It could also be unprecedented should they win to become the first team to go a season unbeaten as they play local team Layoca on Saturday.
Their closest rivals Havedzi Mighty Warriors will lock horns with the powerful ''Tsunami'' Dansoman BSC.
Wuo Gb33 takes on Ada Assurance in a match which could decide the winner of the goal king award. Wuo Gb33 striker Richard Osa leads the scorers chat with 29 goals while Ada Assurance forward Joseph Larweh trails him by just 2 goals.
Sunset Sports Michael Sema who is on 28 goals is also in contention for the DSTV ‘walka’ which would be awarded to the goal king with other attractive packages.
In other fixtures, East Legon Sharks play Tegbi Youth while Senya Sharks take on Osu Dolphins.
In the Division 1 league, Golden Eagles take on Gulf Powers, African Angels will play Chokor Blue Whales while uncrowned Division1 league champions Teshie United will play local rivals Nungua BSC in what would be a tight encounter.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon Clement Kofi Humado has stated that the historic coronation of Ghana's first ever beach soccer champions is an occasion that calls for support and solidarity by all sports supporters and stakeholders.
His view is supported by President of the Ghana Football Association-Kwesi Nyantakyi, who will be there to present the winning trophy along with Miss Ghana Tourism, the La Mantse Nii Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III and Nii Adjei Kraku II - Tema Paramount Chief among others.
Ever present sponsors, Voltic Ghana Limited have increased their package for the winners with an assortment of drinks, souvenirs and t-shirts.
Cal Bank the headline sponsor of the Championship with a total of Gh 40,000 will present a cheque of Gh5,000 to the Champions.
The Division League winners will take home Gh2,500 for their efforts. The President of the GBSA Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has confirmed that a report on the 2011/12 Ghana Beach Soccer League will be presented to the GFA who will partner all future beach soccer activities and seek accreditation to CAF and FIFA.
This special event would take place at the La Beach Soccer Arena –just a few minutes drive from the Labadi Beach Hotel – from 10 am to 3:30 pm.
