The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John says President John Dramani Mahama cannot exonerate himself from corruption that he said has engulfed the NDC
Sir John said corruption is like an albatross around the neck of the President hence he [Mahama] cannot prosecute government officials which according to the NPP scribe have embezzled state funds.
The NPP scribe’s comment is borne out of his party's fear about President Mahama’s commitment to fighting corruption in the country.
Party Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey at a press conference in Accra Tuesday, said given the President’s track-record on issues of corruption as vice president; "Ghanaians have more reasons to worry about corruption now than before".
On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Sir John alleged that President Mahama is himself a culprit when it comes to corruption.
According to him, the action and inaction of President Mahama as vice president resulted in the country incurring what he termed unwarranted judgement debts in three and half years in office.
Sir John cited among other things the controversial STX housing deal, the acquisition of the Embraer 190 presidential jet which he says were spearheaded by President Mahama to corroborate his claims.
He maintained that, Ghana will be doomed if President Mahama is retained in power because he [Sir John]claims a Mahama-led government will not prosecute alleged corrupt government officials who have been cited in the infamous "Woyomegate" scandal.
Touching on the economy, the NPP General Secretary said the present economic crisis in the country has exposed the incompetence of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
He noted that President Mahama who led the Economic Management Team with now Vice President, Amissah-Arthur in charge of monetary policy as governor of the Bank of Ghana should be held responsible for the country's economic woes.
The NPP man described as a hoax the single digit inflation being touted by government as an unprecedented achievement since according to him; there is an astronomical increase in the cost of living for the average Ghanaian.
He said the Mahama/Amissah-Arthur ticket is nothing to write home about and thus should be voted out of power.
Sir John opined that the only party to redeem Ghanaians from the abyss the NDC has plunged the nation into is the NPP and an Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
