The New Patriotic Party has dismissed claims that its Ashanti Region stronghold will be under threat from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming general elections.
Following the large crowd that trooped to the Baba Yara Stadium,Kumasi and subsequently Jubilee Park for the NDC’s Special Congress and Campaign Launch respectively, their General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia stated the region will no longer be the waterloo to the NDC’s electoral fortunes.
The NDC Chairman of the UK and Ireland branch who also subscribed to Asiedu Nketia’s assertions added that the NPP should be alarmed by the sheer number of non-delegates who patronised NDC’s two events last week.
However, the NPP’s Ashanti regional Chairman, Fredrick Fredua Anto, told Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah that the NPP is unperturbed about the huge crowd that took part in the NDC events.
According to him, the NDC bussed people from outside the region to fill the Baba Yara Stadium, and the Jubilee Park hence this could not be the true representation of the NDC’s strength in the region.
Mr. Anto stated that the NDC cannot base their electoral fortunes on the crowd witnessed at those two events as the NPP is ready to battle the NDC in every region.
