The Minority in Parliament is surprised the controversial CI 73 that is set to create 45 new constituencies has been changed to CI 77.
They have described the new instrument as alien to the House and are seeking explanation.
Even though on recess, the Speaker Joyce Bamford Addo recalled the MPs to the House to see to the safe passage of the Constitutional Instrument which will mature into law in 21 sitting days.
The instrument has been a source of heated controversy with the opposition parties not enthused about it, given the additional financial burden the new constituencies will have on them.
They have also argued the timing for the creation of the new constituencies is wrong and too close to the general elections.
But the ruling party and its MPs are adamant and have already conducted primaries to elect candidates for the yet-to-be-legalised constituencies.
On their return to Parliament, members were divided on the business of the week leading to a brief suspension of the sitting.
When sitting resumed, the Minority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu expressed shock at the sudden change in the title of the instrument from CI 73 to 77.
Joy News’ Sammy Darko reported the Minority Leader as saying the CI 77 was not the instrument laid before the House when MPs went on recess and demanded to know why the change in name.
The Minority Leader was also curious as to why the House was sitting in spite of a notice of an application for an interim injunction served on it by a court.
The injunction was to prevent the House from deliberating on the controversial CI 73.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is also pleading with the Speaker to allow MPs to return to their constituencies following what he claims are challenges facing the ongoing biometric exhibition exercise.
