In her bid to become the next District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agotime-Ziope District in the Volta region, Abigail Naki Gabor has outlined an ambitious vision to transform the district into a model of development, economic prosperity, and social equity.
She believes that leadership calls for power, and in turn, calls for cooperation—a principle she upholds in her campaign to bring tangible progress to the district.
With a strong commitment to honesty and hard work, Gabor envisions Agotime-Ziope as a district that thrives on strategic growth and operational excellence. She aims to position the district as one of Ghana’s most rapidly developing localities, improving livelihoods and ensuring that residents have access to the resources they need to prosper.
Abigail Naki Gabor’s development agenda is anchored on three major pillars: infrastructure, youth empowerment, and cultural heritage.
She has vowed to focus on providing clean and accessible water to all communities, a key necessity that has long been a challenge in many parts of the district. By improving water supply systems, she hopes to enhance sanitation, public health, and overall quality of life for residents.
In addition, she has pledged to modernize market infrastructure to support small-scale traders, farmers, and businesses.
Agotime-Ziope is known for its vibrant agricultural sector, yet many markets remain underdeveloped, limiting the economic potential of local farmers. Gabor plans to revamp these spaces, ensuring that they are well-structured, organized, and equipped to accommodate growing trade activities.
Road networks within the district are also high on her agenda. She intends to improve connectivity by rehabilitating and expanding roads that link agricultural hubs to market centers. This initiative is expected to ease transportation difficulties, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance trade efficiency.
Recognising the urgent need to create job opportunities for young people, Gabor is determined to tackle youth unemployment through skill development and job creation initiatives. She believes that the district’s youth must be empowered with the necessary skills to compete in an evolving economy.
To achieve this, she intends to launch vocational training programs, apprenticeship schemes, and entrepreneurship support services that will equip young people with employable skills.
Her approach includes partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector organisations, and international development partners, to ensure that young people receive the necessary resources and support to start their own businesses or secure stable employment.
A proud advocate for cultural heritage, Abigail Naki Gabor is passionate about promoting Agotime’s identity as the traditional home of Kente weaving. She sees the expansion of the Kente industry as a major avenue for economic growth, job creation, and global recognition.
She intends to invest in the craft by supporting local weavers with modern equipment, training programs, and marketing opportunities. Her goal is to position Agotime’s Kente fabric as a globally competitive product, attracting tourists and investors to the district.
Through this initiative, she hopes to empower artisans, create sustainable jobs, and boost the local economy, ensuring that the younger generation continues to inherit and benefit from this cherished tradition.
As she pushes for her nomination as the DCE, Madam Gabor has called on traditional leaders, opinion leaders, community members, and government officials to support her vision. She firmly believes that leadership is about collective effort and that with unity and determination, Agotime-Ziope can achieve remarkable progress.
"My commitment is to build a prosperous, equitable, and resilient district that supports the well-being and progress of its people. Together, we can make Agotime-Ziope a shining example of development and opportunity," she stated.
