The Concerned Youth of Adansi in the Ashanti region are asking the Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, to intervene and help release “innocent residents” who were arrested during a security operation related to illegal mining on 12th November, 2025.

The incident took place in several communities in Adansi, where military and police officers allegedly broke into homes, damaged property and arrested people without clear reasons or proper procedures.

Two weeks after the operation, the youth say families are still suffering because many of the people arrested are breadwinners and heads of households.

In a press release, the group noted no authority has responded to the concerns raised in their earlier press release, and the silence has increased the fear and frustration in the affected communities.

“According to information gathered from residents, some people were taken away without being told why, and many believe the security officers did not follow lawful steps during the arrests,” the statement noted.

In their petition to the Paramount Chief, the youth stressed that they support the national fight against illegal mining, but they believe such operations must be done with fairness and strict compliance with the law.

They are also asking for an independent and transparent investigation into the conduct of the security officers involved in the operation, especially regarding the alleged brutality, and forceful entry into homes.

“The innocent people should not suffer for crimes they did not commit, and security work should never involve excessive force or unlawful entry into people’s homes,” they said.

The youth are therefore pleading with Nana Adansihene to step in and call for the immediate release of all innocent residents who were arrested without lawful justification and are still being held.

They say there are no proper grounds for their continued detention and families are facing emotional and economic hardship while they wait for their loved ones.

They want the Paramount Chief to help ensure that the rights of the detained persons are respected and that due process is finally followed.

Meanwhile, the Tafo Circuit Court is expected to hear their case on Thursday, 27th November 2025.
