Legal counsel for former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, says evidence being led by the prosecution is unexpectedly reinforcing the defence’s case, even before the defence has formally begun presenting its arguments.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Thursday, December 18, Samuel Atta Akyea noted that testimony from the prosecution’s second witness appears to support his client’s position rather than weaken it.
He stressed that the defence has not yet called any witnesses or made submissions in court.
According to Atta Akyea, the explanations offered by the prosecution witness were largely exculpatory, providing context that aligns with Mr Adu-Boahene’s conduct and responsibilities during his tenure at the National Signals Bureau.
He added that some aspects of the testimony touched on sensitive national security matters in a way that reflects positively on his client’s record in office.
“So far, we have not mounted our defence, but it is rather the prosecution’s second witness who is explaining matters in a way that is very exculpatory of our client,” he said.
“The witness has gone further to clarify certain national security issues which are entirely consistent with our client’s image and actions while in office.”
The lawyer maintained that while the trial is still at an early stage, developments in court suggest that the prosecution’s own evidence is shedding light on issues that favour the defence, reinforcing confidence in Mr Adu-Boahene’s case as proceedings continue.
