It has emerged that a statement issued by the Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party on December 8, 2012 and attributed to Boakye Agyarko, the Campaign Manager of Nana Akufo-Addo, described the electoral process as “free and fair”.
The statement, which was captioned “NPP assured of solid one-touch victory for Nana Akufo-Addo based on Friday results,” commended voters “for their patience and enthusiasm for the free and fair process”.
On Tuesday April 23, 2013, Tony Lithur, Lawyer for President Mahama at the ongoing hearing of 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court sought to discredit the NPP’s 2012 Vice presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s claims of irregularities by relying on the comments he said were made by Mr Agyarko during the polls.
Tony Lithur told the court that Mr. Agyako had attested to the flawless nature of the elections, a position which contradicted the party’s current posture that the poll was riddled with irregularities.
But speaking to Joy News Mr. Agyarko flatly denied the statements attributed to him; serving notice he is ready to testify to clear his name.
“Let me emphatically state that in the statement I issued and the following comments, at no point did I say that that this is the cleanest elections or this is the fairest elections or this is the most transparent elections,” Mr Agyarko said.
"I did not use those words so the NDC in typical fashion is concocting words...I never said those things," he maintained.
The December 8, statement however, appears to contradict Mr. Agyarko’s position.
