Airtel Ghana, the CSR Telecoms Company of the year has taken the lead in securing the country from the threat of the Ebola pandemic by donating 70 hand-held infrared thermometers worth GHC 25,000 to the Ministry of Health to help prevent Ebola from coming into Ghana.

The thermometers, which will be distributed to health workers at all the 57 entry points of the country, will be used to detect temperature of commuters who use any of these entry points.

This move is part of measures to monitor the health conditions of people who enter the country as part of the Ebola detection and prevention process.

Human Resource Director of Airtel Ghana, Tina Muparadzi said the money used to purchase the thermometers was contributions from employees of Airtel Ghana as part of an internal CSR campaign to support Ghana Health Service’s Ebola preparedness plan.

She noted that this small but impactful contribution was in line with Airtel’s mission of “Making our Change”, a new campaign which challenges individuals, groups and the society at large to be pragmatic about the change they want to see in their lives.

“We at Airtel take CSR as seriously as we take our business operations. We aim at making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate, focusing primarily on education, health, enterprise development and environment as well as unearthing talent at the juvenile level through football. We believe in being change agents in these communities”, she said.

She explained that apart from the fundraising project embarked on by employees, her company was again contributing to the fight against Ebola through various awareness creation campaigns both internally and to all their customer base.

Dr. Afigah Zachariah, who accepted the donation on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, was grateful to Airtel for the kind gesture and acknowledged the fact that this was one clear step that would help in the acceleration of the fight against the Ebola Disease.

She called on Ghanaians to remain calm and not panic or cause any fear as the Ebola disease in not yet in Ghana.
