Former British High Commissioner, Victor Smith has called on President Akufo-Addo to resign following the allegations stated in the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu's resignation letter.
According to Mr Smith, the former Special Prosecutor's reasons for resigning is an indictment on the corrupt practices of the Akufo-Addo administration.
In his opinion, this is sufficient grounds for the President to step down because Mr Amidu's resignation has "finished" the Akufo-Addo-led government.
"The President must step down, he must go home...That you [Akufo-Addo] tried to engage the guy [Amidu] to alter an investigation of some sort and he refused and he's put it out there in the public domain, he has finished you."
Mr Smith believes that the principled nature of Martin Amidu left no room for the current administration to bend him to their will.
“Amidu is a principled man, in terms of upholding the truth. Martin is not somebody who bends easily, you cannot make him tell lie. The current administration wanted to use him to prosecute NDC people.
According to Mr Smith, while some have described the Special Prosecutor's resignation as a blessing to the NDC, he doesn't see it that way.
"He has only confirmed what the NDC has been saying about this government, the 'clearing house president'. All the things we said about the president, now there is living evidence."
Martin Amidu on Monday tendered in his resignation letter from his position as Special Prosecutor following his appointment in 2018.
According to Mr Amidu, President Akufo-Addo had attempted to make him a “poodle” of his government and since he (Amidu) is an honourable man and a person of integrity he cannot allow himself be compromised by partisan influence.
The President after 24 hours of receiving the letter has accepted the resignation of Mr Amidu, popularly known as Citizen Vigilante.
