Lands and Mines Watch Ghana has strongly endorsed the government’s handling of the Damang Mine lease transition, describing the process as a clear demonstration of transparency, legality, and responsible resource governance.
The group specifically praised the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, for what it termed a bold, transparent, and reform-driven approach in managing the lease’s impending expiration.
According to the organisation, the Minister’s actions reflect a firm commitment to accountability and the protection of Ghana’s mineral resources.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Kwame Owusu Danso, Lands and Mines Watch Ghana highlighted the activation of the Minerals and Mining (General) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2176) to guide a competitive bidding process as a significant step toward strengthening due process in the mining sector.
The group noted that the issuance of formal notices to interested parties, along with independent technical and financial assessments, enhances the credibility and fairness of the process.
It added that these measures align with international best practices and reinforce Ghana’s position as a stable and transparent mining destination.
Lands and Mines Watch Ghana further underscored the broader national benefits of the approach, including safeguarding jobs in host communities, promoting local economic stability, and ensuring value maximisation from Ghana’s mineral resources.
While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and fairness, the group recommended E&P as a capable and credible contender in the bidding process, citing its technical expertise and alignment with Ghana’s local content objectives.
The organisation urged the Ministry to sustain the current level of transparency through to the conclusion of the process and ensure that the final outcome reflects the best interests of the Ghanaian people.
