Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Chief Executive of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), on Tuesday warned management and staff of the assembly against any mediocre performance. "Time is not on our side and we certainly cannot make excuses. We have no other choice but to be proactive administrators producing results," he told them. Mr Vanderpuije gave the warning at the opening session of a four-day seminar on Managing Productivity for Management of the assembly in Accra on Tuesday. The seminar, which was attended by Directors and Heads of Departments, was to sharpen their managerial and administrative skills to make them more confident and competent in managing the various department and units under them. Mr Vanderpuije said that good leadership of AMA management would enable subordinates adhere to standards and high performance for increased productivity. He said the use of time, attitude towards work, commitment to excellence and value for work were significant factors associated with productive and effective leaders. The Accra Mayor implored the participants to take advantage of the seminar and acquire new knowledge and skills to enable them become better managers of their departments and units. In another development, Mr Philip Nii Lante Lamptey, Chairman of Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan Area, has cut the sod for work to begin on a 20-seater water closet public toilet for the Mamprobi Electoral Area. The project under the Accra Sewerage Improvement Project is to replace the old dilapidated public toilet in the area and improve sanitation in the community. Mr Lamptey said it was the responsibility of the AMA to improve the living standards of the people by providing good educational facilities, toilets, sanitation programmes and markets. He said the assembly would demolish all unauthorised structures in the metropolis as well as structures on waterways to ensure free flow of water. Mr Lamptey said the sub-metropolitan assembly had initiated efforts to rehabilitate street lights in Mamprobi electoral area and provide speed ramps to reduce accidents. He called on the people to assist the assembly to register residents for the distribution of litter bins and waste collection in the area.Source: GNA
