Miss Emefa Kuashie, a level 200 Student of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) was in the wee hours of Sunday crowned “Mama Hogbe 2011”.
Emefa beat fourteen other contestants to be crowned the most beautiful woman in the Anlo State with the core mandate of promoting the cultural values of the people of Anlo in the Volta Region.
The pageant, the first in over thirteen years, formed part of activities to mark this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival.
The 21-year-old, who dazzled the judges and the crowd alike, went home with mouth watering prizes. Apart from a brand new silver plated crown, she also took home a plaque, a certificate and a Blue Great Wall saloon car from Tanink Ghana Ltd.
All 15 ladies in the contest proved their worth in the talent show where they had the arduous task of impressing the judges with their talents which included posing as pregnant women, Warriors, Traditional dancers, a short drama on knowledge of culture etc.
After the talent show, only five were selected by the team of experienced judges to progress to the next stage of answering simple but tricky questions on the culture of the Anlos.
At this point it was obvious that some of the ladies were too tensed and allowed the crowd to get into their emotions.
There was nothing anyone could do about the crowd who jeered at them when they slipped.
The final lap for the first five contestants saw them answer questions on their intended projects and how they would finance them should they become winners.
The audience could not agree more when Emefa’s name was declared as the queen of the night, rushing onto the stage to catch a glimpse of her.
There were other performances from Hiplife sensation Eduwojie of “yenko nkoaa” fame and Atumpan who thrilled the fans with his “the thing” song.
