The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly is being accused of misusing funds meant for victims of the recent flood.
About seventeen people died in the area and thousands were displaced by one of the worst floods recorded in the country’s history.
The Assembly budgeted for about forty thousand Ghana Cedis for the upkeep of victims, but some assembly members are accusing the Municipal Chief Executive of misusing the money.
An Assembly Member Abdul Aziz Suleman, told Joy News’ Elvis Adjetey they are worried that monies and items approved for the victims have still not been made available to them.
The Municipal Chief Executive Numo Adinortey Addison however denies.
According to him the money voted for the relief items is not even available.
“We went to a meeting and took that decision that the Assembly should not even spend more than GH¢40,000. As I speak with you, we don’t even have that money.”
He said they have requested for financial assistance from the Common Fund to facilitate the management of the disaster situation.
“We are working. What is the problem. They should wait until the committee finishes its work and then account will be rendered to them. Can’t they see what we are doing?” he quizzed.
