The Asogli State Council, led by Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including senior government officials and military personnel.

In a statement issued on behalf of the chiefs and people of Asogli, the Council said they received the news “with deep pain and sorrow,” describing the incident as a great loss to the nation.

The victims included: Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Befemi Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the leadership and entire membership of the National Democratic Congress,” the Council said.

“We stand with them in this moment of national mourning, and we pray for strength and healing for the bereaved families and loved ones of the fallen.”

The Asogli State described the victims as “eight souls… who met their untimely death in the course of national service” and praised them for their “dedication, courage, and profound sense of duty to our country.”

“The Asogli State salutes their service and honours their sacrifice with gratitude and reverence. May their names be etched in our collective memory, and may their legacy inspire a renewed commitment to national unity and service,” the statement added.

In a call for national reflection, the Council urged the public and the media to respect the privacy of the grieving families.

“At this solemn hour, we appeal to all Ghanaians and the media to respect the privacy and grief of the bereaved families. Let us refrain from speculation and divisive commentary. This is a time for quiet reflection, compassion, and solidarity,” they said.

“May the Almighty grant eternal rest to the departed and comfort to all who mourn,” they added.
