Aid To Artisans Ghana (ATAG) is making drastic efforts at developing a strategic plan to help revitalise the crafts industry in Ghana.
This would render the industry attractive and competitive in the Global Market, and contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the country.
Mrs Bridget Kyerematen-Darko, ATAG Executive Director, made these statements at a workshop conducted by a team of business consultants from International Business Machines (IBM) for stakeholders in the craft industry recently in Accra and Kumasi.
The workshop which was attended by artisans, exporters, agents and organisations with vested interest in handicrafts was aimed at discussing current issues of the industry and how to boost the sale of handicraft in the country.
Participants were also taken through a special training on the supply chain management, marketing and communications.
Mrs Kyerematen-Darko indicated that the history of culture of the Ghanaian handicrafts was what made the products unique, adding that, by collaborating and finding new ways to market and distribute the local handicrafts, a stronger market would be built.
The workshop gave participants the opportunity to brainstorm and come up with innovative ideas whiles creating platform for networking and collaborating among the craftsmen.
