Atwimah Mponua MP lambasts Alban Bagbin

Member of Parliament for Atwimah Mponuah has expressed disgust over claims by the Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin that excess diaries printed for MP’s was to be blamed on the previous government. Isaac Asiamah on the floor of parliament questioned why two diaries for the year 2009 would be given to MP’s in just three months. That, he said, was a waste of resources, which did not reflect government’s pledge to cut down waste and profligate spending in the public service. Alban Bagbin was alleged to have blamed the previous government for ordering and printing the diaries in 2008 in response to Asiamah’s concern. In an interview with Citi News on Thursday, the Mponua MP could not hide his disgust over how the Majority Leader could arrive as such a conclusion. “The pace in which functionaries of this government would want to blame the previous government is unfortunate.” Describing Bagbin’s intervention as a “disaster, naïve and unfortunate,” Isaac Asiamah said a little cross check would have saved the majority leader from making this mistake. He argued “in 2008 we did not have the current speaker…obviously, they couldn’t have printed those ones in 2008 bearing the picture of the current speaker. “No body, anticipated the NDC was going to win the election for me I did not anticipate that. It is naïve. “No body will anticipate that you would print a diary for parliament bearing a speaker who then was not known. It is unfortunate the majority leader had to come in with that submission,” he argued. Jones Kugblenu, Public Affairs Director of parliament explained the anomaly came from the publishing company who failed to produce in bulk the 2500 diaries of different sizes as requested by parliament. He hinted punitive measures will be taken against the company. Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline
