The Bantama Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has finally conducted fresh elections in 55, out of 59 polling station executives and eight Co-ordinators.
The Party has set September 22 for the election of Constituency Executives, after the successful polling station elections.
Speaking to The Chronicle shortly after the elections, the Ashanti Regional 1st vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji S.M. Sheriff described the election as peaceful, and thanked stakeholders for their co-operation.
The Bantama NPP could not take part in the recent national congress of the party, due to the wrangling that was going on in the party.
Alhaji Sheriff told the paper that at tire time the party was organizing its nation-wide elections to pick various executives, there were protests against the election of some executives, which led to a protracted dispute in court.
According to the 1st vice Chairman, the court, after going into the case, ruled that nobody should hold himself out as an executive in the constituency.
The regional secretariat was, therefore, mandated to see to the day to day running of the party in the constituency.
The former was also mandated to see to the organization of fresh elections in the constituency, which they did after all the parties had adopted a resolution of the organization of the election.
Under the resolution, it was agreed that apart from the polling station elections, the coordinators and constituency executives should also allow for fresh nominations for any member of the party interested to compete for any position.
It was agreed that payment of filing fees would only be applicable to fresh contestants.
The four polling stations yet to be organized are the Bantama JSS, Akosa JSS, Cambridge School and Temporal Booth.
The election has been put on hold due, to another misunderstanding that is yet to be resolved.
