The Ghana Baptist Women Convention on Saturday called for stronger partnership between the Church and the State towards improving conditions at the country’s prisons.
The group said that there was the need for the two institutions to work together to make life comfortable for prisoners.
Mrs Juliana Boakye, President of the Kumasi North Baptist Association, an affiliate of the Convention, made the call when she was presenting gifts food items worth GH¢1,000.00 to the Kumasi Female Prison.
These include rice, sugar, beans, gari, toilet roll, sanitary pads, deodorants, underwear, soap and loaves of bread.
Mrs Boakye said members of the group as Christians, were enjoined by their faith to care for the poor and needy in society.
She pledged to make regular visits to the prison to support the inmates to enable them live dignified lifestyles.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons Juana Tackie-Otoo, who received the items, commended the association for the gesture and said prisoners formed part of society and should not be neglected.
She called on individuals, organisations and families to ensure the proper reintegration of ex-convicts into the society instead of doing things that would send them back to their bad ways.
