The Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) is commemorating its 60th anniversary with a call for the revitalisation of its ministry to have a greater impact on national development.
The organisation, which has been at the forefront of Bible translation, publication, and distribution since its inception, announced a series of events under the theme, “60 Years of the Bible Society of Ghana: Revitalising Our Bible Ministry for Greater Impact”.
The anniversary is a moment for reflection on past achievements and to renew its commitment to the future.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 26, signed by Very Rev. Dr. John Kwesi Addo Jnr, the General Secretary of The Bible Society of Ghana, the Christian group stated that the story of the Bible’s deep entrenchment in the lives of Ghanaians is "inextricably linked with the vision, dedication, and tireless efforts of the Bible Society of Ghana".
Inspired by the story of Mary Jones and the British and Foreign Bible Society, the BSG's founders recognised the need for all people to have personal access to scripture.
Over the past six decades, the BSG has achieved monumental milestones, including the translation and revision of the complete Bible in 11 major Ghanaian languages, with ongoing efforts to reach even more communities.
Beyond translation, the organisation has engaged in various outreach programmes, such as mentorship, literacy initiatives, and projects for persons with visual disabilities.
The Bible Society of Ghana expressed "profound gratitude to God and the generous Christians who have supported us thus far".
The planned activities are designed to engage a wide range of the community and express appreciation for the unwavering support the organisation has received.
The official lineup of events includes:
- Mary Jones Walk (Walk for the Bible): Saturday, August 30, 2025, starting at 8:00 AM from Obra Spot, Accra.
- 60th Anniversary Lecture: Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the Ghana Shippers Council Hall. The speaker will be Rev. Prof. B.Y. Quarshie, former Rector of the Akrofi Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture.
- Thanksgiving Service: Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the UPSA Hall, Legon.
The BSG is inviting the public to join in the celebrations and support its mission.
"We invite every church, every individual, and every organisation to partner with us in this vital work," Very Rev. Dr. Addo Jnr stated.
He concluded by stating that the legacy of the past 60 years reflects God's faithfulness and the dedication of His people in Ghana.
