Most Reverend John Martin Darko, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi, on Sunday noted that goodwill was required of all Ghanaians to ensure that the oil find became a blessing to the country.
A press release on his Christmas message in Takoradi, said: “We need goodwill in abundance, now that oil is dictating our attitude towards one another and in the coming years.”
“We want our oil to bring us blessings and not a curse,” he added.
Bishop Darko said it was ungodly for people to crave for material things, which motivate some of them to murder and deceive people.
He said Christ came to show the way home and not to get people entrenched in the riches of the earth.
Bishop Darko noted that “endemic” corruption and other vices were being perpetrated in Ghana because of the lack of goodwill.
He said the driving force behind evil was selfishness, pride and bad- will which ended up in suffering.
“If we want peace, we must avoid acts such as greed for power, money and wealth that threatens peace in our country and the world.”
Bishop Darko expressed the hope that the Good Lord would restore the moral conscience of the people and assist with Grace to enable them embrace the New Year.
He said Ghanaians must make an undertaking to avoid attacks on personalities and insults pointing out that people who respect themselves respect others.
Bishop Darko said no Ghanaian should harbour any hidden agenda towards his or her neighbour while politicians must show true love towards the people they made promises to.
He said politicians must remember that “the people whose vote pushed them to the top are waiting below the tree of life when they are on their way down”.
