The Directorate of Public Affairs at the University of Cape Coast in collaboration with the Global Wings Tour Limited has organised a blood donation exercise to stock the University of Cape Coast blood bank.

The University of Cape Coast Hospital is one of the first points of call that serve accident victims and emergency cases in the Cape Coast Metropolis before such patients are transferred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

According to the Directorate of Public Affairs of UCC, their partnership with the Global Wings Tours will enable them get the UCC blood bank filled to save the lives of children and other emergency needs.

Many people for want of blood lose their lives, hence the move is expected to help save many lives.

Assistant Medical Laboratory Scientist in charge of the UCC Hospital Laboratory, Samuel Amoah, said the gesture has added 100 pints of blood to their blood bank and will go a long way to help in the operations of the Hospital.

“We are indeed very happy for this gesture. It will help at least add some pints of blood to our stock. 

"Blood has never been manufactured anywhere; it is some of us that must donate blood to support the life-saving effort of many hospitals,” he said.

He advised the general public to at least to show love by donating blood at least each holiday. 

“When you donate blood, it does not only help our hospitals and yourself but you are given a donor card that automatically qualifies you or your relative to be given blood when the need arises,” he added.

 

The leader of the Exercise, Samuel Odua Quarmyne, called on the general public to factor blood donation into their yearly plans to help save the lives of people that might need blood.

“Our lives are not controlled by us. One moment, you are bubbling with life and the next moment, you might be in the hospital in need of blood to save your life. If you are a donor, you will not be found wanting,” he stated.
