The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) is investigating allegations that a company paid by the Tema Oil Refinery for the supply of crude oil was not the actual supplier of the commodity.
The investigation, which is at the instance of government, follows the emergence of a business entity that is claiming ownership of the crude supplied to TOR.
A statement signed by Deputy Minister for Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa explains that government expects the BNI, which has been on the case for a while now to conclude its investigations within the shortest possible time.
According to Mr. Ablakwa government will act swiftly on the report of the investigations.
Togolese security forces last month arrested the prime suspect in the alleged scam Solomon Eleogu and handed him over to the Ghanaian authorities.
It involves a cargo of some 600,000 barrels of crude valued at 48 million dollars.
Though TOR says it never received any such consignment, officials of the Nigerian firm that dispatched the cargo, the Diamond Shipping Company insist the crude oil was discharged to the refinery and is therefore seeking to be paid for the cargo.
