British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson has praised Ghana's efforts in tackling deforestation, enhancing cocoa sector sustainability, and improving community livelihoods.
Speaking in Accra on Monday, she highlighted the partnership between the two countries, exemplified by initiatives like the Cocoa and Forest Initiative Frameworks for Action.
She emphasised their shared commitment to a sustainable future.
During a flag-raising ceremony at the Forecourt of the State House to mark Commonwealth Day, Thompson reiterated London and Accra's dedication to ensuring peaceful general elections in Ghana in December.
The event, themed "One Resilient Common Future," underscored the importance of Commonwealth member countries collaborating to build resilience, unlock potential, and leverage the Commonwealth Advantage.
Thompson noted that the theme reaffirmed the Commonwealth's commitment to overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities together, leveraging their strong bonds.
Commonwealth Day, celebrated on the second Monday of March each year, is dedicated to honouring the Commonwealth of Nations and its 56 member states.
Thompson emphasized the core values of democracy, respect for diversity, human rights, the rule of law, and sustainable development within the Commonwealth family.
She concluded, "It is an honour to join you today as we proudly raise the Commonwealth flag in Ghana and around the world to reflect our shared heritage and collective achievements."
To mark the day, Thompson and Mr. Ampratum-Sarpong planted tree seedlings.
