A member of the Gonja Traditional Council is accusing the Buipe Wura, Mahama Abdulai Jinapor II, of abduction and attempted murder.
Sorwura Gbankluso of Mankpa says last Friday, a group of warriors under the instructions of the Buipe Wura brutalized him with cutlasses, cudgels and stones before dragging him to the Chief’s palace.
According to Sorwura Gbankluso, on reaching the Buipe Wura’s palace, his captors informed the chief they had brought him, following which the chief also held him by his smock and dragged him into his living room where he attempted shooting him with a pistol but the gun failed to fire.
He alleges that following the advice of one of the chief’s wives, he was locked up in a small room to be burnt during the night. Luckily for him he had his mobile phone on him and managed to reach the District Police Commander to be rescued.
The Commander, A.S.P. Owusu Antwi when we spoke to him admitted receiving a distress call from Sorwura Gbankluso but said because he was in Kumasi, he relayed the message to some soldiers on the ground to rescue him.
Warrant Officer Dominic, the soldier alleged to have led the rescue mission, says he cannot talk about the issue.
However in a sharp twist, Spokesman for the Buipe Wura, Dr. Abdulai Jinapor claims it was the Buipe Wura who called W.O. Dominic and his team to rescue Sorwura Gbankluso from the angry warriors.
He tells Joy News the supporters were angry for earlier attacks on the chief’s supporters, one of whom is on admission at the Kintampo Government Hospital in critical condition.
