The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has introduced an educational curriculum for Ghanaian exporters to align with the International Trade Policies under the World Trade Organization.
Chief Executive of GEPA, Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, detailed the need for a diploma in international trade online programme citing its competitive advantage for Ghanaian exporters.
“The expected outcome for the third pillar of the National Export Development Strategy, is to have a substantial number of trained men and women actively engaged in businesses in the industrial export product and services value chains countrywide. Obviously, the launch of the Diploma in International Trade will serve as one of the many building blocks in the third pillar of Ghana’s National Export Development Strategy,” she stated.
All exporters of non-traditional products will in the coming weeks be engaged in an intensive orientation.
This is to open them up to existing opportunities ahead of the implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) in July 2020.
Madam Asabea Asare also disclosed to Joy Business that the exercise is very imperative for making the non-traditional sector more competitive.
“The Continental Free Trade Agreement will be better than before; we can trade across the whole of Africa. To this end, we are trying to prepare exporters to understand what the CFTA is all about. There is going to be a forum in the coming weeks to this effect and this is all to make our non-traditional exporters highly competitive,” she stated.
With the potential of increasing government’s export margins in the area of non-traditional products, the Continental Free Trade Agreement has been described by government as a game changer.
