To promote and prioritise legal education in basic schools across the country, the CA Project presented 40 copies of the 1992 constitution to Redeemer Preparatory and Junior High School at Pig farm in Accra.
The donation was the first in the Project’s quest to distribute copies of the 1992 Constitution to stock libraries of basic schools across the country.
The CA Project seeks to address the existing gap in constitutional education by empowering young Ghanaians with Constitutional literacy, fostering a culture of active citizenship, and encouraging greater youth participation in democratic processes.
Students learned about the history of the 1992 Constitution, who created it, and why they need to understand it.
They were also taught how the Constitution helps them to know their rights and responsibilities as they grow up.
Making the presentation to pupils and staff of the school, Lead Advocate for The CA Project, Celestine Addo, indicated that amid the ongoing Constitutional review, it was important to embark on constitutional literacy to create awareness among the youth especially students, to foster a culture of civic responsibility and deepen their participation in the democratic process’.

“This initiative is expected to bridge the knowledge gap by educating pupils and students in basic schools on their rights, responsibilities and the democratic processes that shape governance about the country’s Constitutional provisions” she said.
She further explained that the long-term goal for the CA project is to advocate for the integration of basic principles of law and the 1992 Constitution of Ghana into the educational curriculum in Ghana.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of NCCE, Mr. Mawuli Agbenu, said the initiative is a laudable one which the NCCE is proud to associate with.
Explaining to the pupils the importance of the Constitution, Mr Agbenu explained that the bedrock to becoming a responsible citizen is to acquaint oneself with the stipulated responsibilities in the Constitution as a young person.
Some of the topics Mr. Agbenu discussed with the children included provisions in Article 41 of the Constitution, which are the responsibilities of all citizens.
This includes how to be a good citizen, and how to contribute to the development of the community and develop strong character that imbibes good values and some basic rights of every Ghanaian.

The Head teacher for Redeemer Preparatory School, Mr David Sagodo, expressed his gratitude to the CA Project and NCCE for the presentation.
Mr. Sagodo expressed his gratitude that the Constitution will enhance the legal literacy of the pupils and boost the school’s quest to deepen civic education among students.
“For a long time, we’ve been offering abstract education on civic duties and responsibilities in our classrooms.
"This presentation of printed constitution booklets to the school, will make teaching easier and enable pupils to relate with the Constitutional provisions,” he said.
The students expressed their joy, as to many of them, that was their first time seeing and touching the 1992 Constitution.
