The Upper East Regional Security Council is beefing up the number of security operatives at various bus terminals in an attempt to stop the trafficking of children to the south of the country. The security operatives will be mandated to arrest owners of vehicles found to be transporting children under the age of 18 who are unaccompanied. The strict security measures follow the interception of a bus-load of children being trafficked from the Upper East Region to Accra over the weekend.“We looked at the transport owners, parents, and then the security agencies because all these groups have a role play,” Upper East Regional Minister Mark Wayongo said in an interview.“…We will be sending policemen to the transport terminals to ensure that the directive is complied,” He addedHe says all persons caught transporting any child under the age of 18 unaccompanied will be made to face the full rigors of the law.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
