The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, on Tuesday appealed to civil servants to take advantage of the country’s macro-economic stability and take bank loans to build houses. He said this was important to provide them with some social security and a bit of comfort when they go on pension. They should, however, see to it that these loans are repaid on schedule to enable others benefit from such facilities. Mr Opoku-Manu said this when a technical team of “Bear Afric”, a construction company in Kenya, accompanied by the Regional Executive of the Civil Servants and Local government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) and the Chief of Adubinso-kese, Nana Owusu Piasa II, paid a courtesy call on him. They were there to inform the Minister of the acquisition of a 350-acre land at Adubinso-kese in the Afigya-Kwabre District by the association for the construction of 6,000 housing units for its members. The Kenyan company would undertake the job. Mr Opoku-Manu said housing for civil servants had been a nightmare and therefore he was happy that the association had taken the initiative to tackle the problem. Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomoh, Ashanti Regional CLOGSAG Chairman, said after three years search, they now had financiers to support the take off of the project.
